Yuxi Normal University (YXNU) is a provincial full-time public undergraduate university. Its origins date back to 1978 with the establishment of the Yuxi Teacher Training Program, authorized by the Yunnan Provincial Government. In 1983, the institution was upgraded to Yuxi Teachers College, and in 1992, it was renamed Yuxi Advanced Teachers College with the approval of the former State Education Commission. In 2000, the Ministry of Education officially authorized the establishment of Yuxi Normal University. A significant milestone was reached in 2024, when the university was formally granted the status of a master's degree-conferring institution.
Located in Yuxi—a celebrated city in central Yunnan known as the "Highland Water Town" and one of China's Top 10 Most Livable Ecological Cities—the university is the closest regional institution to Kunming, the provincial capital. As the proud hometown of the renowned composer Nie Er, Yuxi provides an inspiring backdrop for our campus, which covers an area of 1,014.45 mu (approximately 167 acres).
